Advocacy and Governmental AffairsA primary role of The Arc of North Carolina is to serve as an advocate for improved quality of life for all individuals with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. The Arc of North Carolina communicates with local, state, and national lawmakers so they can make informed decisions regarding the well being of North Carolina's citizens with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. The Arc works diligently to preserve basic human rights and to assure that necessary programs and services are available. Through individual, group, and systems advocacy, The Arc of North Carolina, its local chapters, and volunteers promote opportunities for living, learning, playing and working in the community. Read the latest edition of theGovernment Report (updated bi-monthly) andCapitol Insider (updated weekly) to find out what is happening on a national level. For additional information on advocacy and governmental relations, contact Dave Richard, Executive Director, at dave@arcnc.org or Ellen Russell, Director of Advocacy and Chapter Services, at ellen@arcnc.org
