    The NC Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Health & Human Services will be meeting at 8:30 AM instead of 9:30 AM on Tuesday, May 15th and will adjourn at 12:30 PM.

    As part of our push to slow down managed care implementation, we encourage all of our members and supporters to attend the meeting and make your voices heard on how the speed of managed care implementation has affected you personally. Attending this meeting (along with other important actions) is one of the best ways for your concerns to be heard directly by decision-makers.

    Your Vote Counts ButtonToday (Tuesday, May 8) is election day. All across our state, North Carolinians will be voting on Amendment One to NC Constitution as well as primary races in both partisan and non-partisan races.

    Kansas Governor Sam Brownback

    [Kansas] Governor Sam Brownback’s office announced today he’s agreed to a one-year delay in implementing a plan to bring services for the developmentally under managed care.

    The announcement, via a written statement, came hours after about 800 developmentally disabled people and their supporters descended like a red-shirted tide on the Capitol lawn. They called on the Legislature and the governor to at least delay — and preferably kill — plans to bring their community-based long-term services under managed care.

    Disability Policy Seminar LogoToday [April 25] is the third day of the Disability Policy Seminar in Washington DC, where 10 representatives from The Arc in North Carolina are in attendance. The seminar brings disability advocates from all over the country together to network, learn, and compare notes on laws affecting those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

    Today focuses on meeting with elected officials. Representatives from The Arc of NC will meet with 9 legislators, including Senator Kay Hagan. Senator Burr is unable to meet in person, but representatives from The Arc will meet with his staff.

    The Arc of North Carolina and The YMCA of Western North Carolina are very pleased to announce that the Every Child inclusion model has been extended to summer 2012 day camp. Based out of Hominy Valley Elementary School in Buncombe County, day camp begins 6/18/12 and runs every weekday thereafter through the start of school.

    Last week, North Carolina received an extension to the Personal Care [PCS] state plan service by CMS. [This issue does not affect Personal Care provided under the CAP or Innovations waiver]. The extension was necessary because CMS (the Center for Medicaid Services) had informed North Carolina that its PCS service was not in compliance with Medicaid comparability requirements. Currently, North Carolina has different standards for eligibility for in-home care and care in licensed facilities.
