Transition Related Instructional Program (TRIP) will enable consumers to develop skills necessary for changing their current life situation from a home based system of support to a wide variety of residential options. This program will focus on the development of life skills, consumer rights, guardianship and making informed choices about future needs.

The primary outcome of this program is to provide training to high-school aged children who choose to remain at home or desire to live in other residential settings. Families generally teach their children the skills of daily living (cooking, laundry, chores, etc.) however, this facet of Adult Services will assist the consumers in developing skills that may have been disregarded and are necessary for increased independence. These skills will be developed to help the individual realize their potential while expanding on the abilities they already have.

A secondary outcome of TRIP is to improve the quality of life for these consumers and foster better relationships between the Developmental Disability System and their families. This period in a young adults life is full of confusing and often conflicting information but by providing a smoother transition The Arc of Durham Co. hopes to assist these consumers in meeting there residential and personal goals.
