Self-Advocacy

The Self-Advocacy movement was launched statewide in 1985. In the past, individuals with developmental disabilities relied on others to express their needs.

Now, individually and collectively, self-advocates are speaking out for their rights and needs. Through education and practice, self-advocates are developing skills to become independent and responsible citizens.
