Statement regarding the ruling in the legal case Samantha R., et al. v North Carolina and the NC Department of Health and Human Services

On November 2, 2022, a judge presiding over Samantha R., et al. v North Carolina and the NC Department of Health and Human Services issued an injunctive relief order.

The lawsuit, filed in 2017 by Disability Rights North Carolina, directs the state of North Carolina to resolve several issues affecting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), including elimination of the Innovations Waiver waitlist in 10 years.

The Arc of North Carolina will continue to advocate for people with IDD and fight for what is important to them. We believe that everyone should have access to the supports and services they need to live their lives.

We applaud Disability Rights North Carolina's efforts to create greater access to resources, supports and services in the most inclusive manner possible.

We look forward to working with them on these issues as we forward our mission of securing choice and opportunity for all people with IDD in North Carolina.
